5/11/22 Collapsed Male, Walkhampton

Incident 26.

DSRT(Tavistock) was called at 08:29 to assist the Ambulance service to locate a 68 year old man with chest pains who had set out to cycle from Walkhampton Church to Princetown along the old railway line.  The casualty and his wife’s mobile phones were called by the Police and by our Sarloc location app but no contact was achieved. A What 3 Words given by the subject to Ambulance control indicated he was about 1km NE of Walkhampton Church. A speedy response was enabled by a team member resident in Walkhampton who drove to the church and deployed from there, to be joined by a team Land Rover with oxygen, defibrillator and basic life support equipment.  The remaining team members deployed from Leedon Tor car park with duplicate kit.  Meanwhile Police officers were checking the alternative footpath and area around the Church. We were stood down at 09:18, when informed that the subject was in the care of South West Ambulance personnel, and our 17 members who had responded returned, soaking wet, to their vehicles.. Chest pains are always a high priority, and a rapid multi-agency response ended with a good outcome. We wish him a speedy recovery.

Postscript: The Team was eventually informed that, after the 999 call including the W3W detail had been made, the subject had managed to reach Walkhampton village, and that is where the Ambulance service attended to him.
