Incident 28. DSRT(Tavistock) was called at 20:39 to assist the Police in a search for a missing walker who was staying at Hotel Endsleigh. She and her husband had been walking back alongside the river from Horsebridge. Her husband had been walking behind her towards the end, so was surprised to find her not back before him.
19 team members and 3 vehicles deployed, including a search dog & handler and a swiftwater rescue team with sled. The first team was tasked to conduct a hasty search along the riverbank path, staying in the ‘cold’ (safe) zone away from the swollen river’s edge, whilst other search parties were readied. About 500m from the RV they met the misper, who was well and still walking, and escorted her back to the car park. Apparently she’d become disoriented in the woods and had only just found her way back to near the Hotel. The Police then took her to be reunited with her husband, so a happy ending to what turned out to be a long day!
