17.05.2023 Unwell walker south of Combshead Tor

Incident 9. DSRT Tavistock was called at 12:59 to assist a 76 year old walker who had become unwell during a walk with a rambling group. He was unstable and nauseous and could walk no further. Although an Ordnance Survey grid reference had been given by the group when they called for assistance, that information was not passed to us, and so a search was begun by our advance hill party around Combshead Tor, which had been mentioned. The group was soon located 500m south of the Tor on the side of the valley and the gentleman assessed by one of Casualty Carers. A stretcher party was sent to the site, accompanied by two South West Ambulance personnel. The subject was then stretchered 2.5km over rough and boggy ground and then along the track back to a waiting Ambulance at Norsworthy Bridge. The rest of his group returned with our members..
