1st and 2nd November Storm Ciaran

All seven Mountain Rescue Teams in the region put their Water team members on alert to assist in response to any incidents caused by Storm Ciaran, as widespread flooding was predicted by the Met Office and Environment Agency. Fortunately for the public overnight there were no incidents requiring our resources.

Incident 22. At 10:15, as the strongest winds and rain were beginning to subside DSRT Tavistock Water Team was called, as well as that of DSRT Plymouth to attend an incident below Lopwell Dam. Multiple agencies were involved in locating and recovering a car submerged in the River Tavy. The female occupant was extracted and taken to Derriford Hospital, where she was declared deceased. Searches of the river banks were carried out to ensure that no-one else was requiring assistance. Members returned to base at 15:00. Our thoughts are with the family at this sad time.
