16.3.2024 Unwell walker, NorthEast of Hare Tor

Incident 12. At 17:12 DSRT Tavistock was called by our sister team, North Dartmoor Search & Rescue Team, to assist them with the evacuation of one member of a team training for Ten Tors, who was suffering from a medical condition and could walk no further. Members from both Teams deployed onto the Moor in deteriorating weather conditions as darkness closed in. Once at the casualty site the subject was examined by a team doctor and then packaged in an insulated casualty bag for evacuation by stretcher. This was carried out over difficult terrain in driving rain and thick mist. The rest of the youngsters were escorted to a LandRover at the head of the Rattlebrook peat railway track and were driven to the Fox and Hounds, arriving at 23:00. The casualty and members of the stretcher party were collected at the same track head and transported by LandRovers back to our RVP, where she was handed over to the care of Ambulance personnel at 00:50 Sunday morning. A successful outcome to a joint-team deployment.
