Incident 26. DSRT Tavistock was called by the Police at 15:55 on New Year’s Eve to assist an injured walker near Down Tor, who had slipped off a rock and was unable to walk. It had been a particularly wet and windy day, and was now getting dark. A PhoneFind was sent to confirm their location.
The first team deployed from the RV at 16:20 and started their assessment of the casualty about 10 minutes later. The casualty’s wife and child were escorted back to the RVP whilst a vacuum splint was applied to the casualty’s injured knee. He was then packaged in a vacuum mattress and stretchered to the RV to be taken to A&E at Derriford Hospital.
