Incident 31. We were called by the Police at 15:30 to assist a walker who had fallen ill near Beardown Tors. We were unable to contact the casualty directly to confirm his location, so we deployed our team members using the information we had. We assembled at Holming Beam and members set off across the valley towards the tors, with our Hilux 4×4 being taken round to head up the track through Beardown Farm, to ensure any equipment we needed was as close as possible to the Tors.
Members reached the location given, but the casualty was not where expected, so searches around the tors were started to attempt to locate the casualty. Contact with the casualty was then made by phone, and he told us he had made a recovery and walked most of the way back to Beardown Farm with another walker, and was planning on getting a lift to his car.
The casualty had done the right thing in calling for help as soon as he realised he was in trouble, and had also done the right thing by calling the ambulance service back to tell them he was making his way off the moor.
A small team who had not deployed were sent to Beardown Farm by car, to meet the casualty and he was checked over by our team doctor. He then took a lift with the other walker back to his own car.
Our team was stood down and vehicles returned to our Rescue Centre at 17:00.
